João Almeida Fonseca is Full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP), where he heads the Department of Community Medicine, Information and Health Decision Sciences (MEDCIDS), and serves as Director of the undergraduate programme in Digital Health and Biomedical Innovation. He is a researcher at RISE Health and President of the Association for Innovation in Medicine.

He is Coordinator of the Immunoallergology Units at CUF Porto Institute and Hospital, as well as at CUF Tâmega e Sousa. He previously served as Co-Director of the Harvard Medical School Portugal Program and was a member of the Health Technology Assessment Committee at INFARMED.

His research interests include Digital Health, Patient-Centred Innovation, Clinical Research, and the Evaluation and Implementation of Health Technologies.

He has co-authored more than 350 scientific publications, with over 10,000 citations and an H-index of 54 (Web of Science), and has been involved in more than thirty research projects.
